Tamarind processing activities on at Munchingiput Van Dhan Vikas Kendra in Andhra Pradesh

The G. Munchingiput Van Dhan Kendra in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh has been busy with a slew of activities being carried out in the past few days.

The MFP that is being processed here at this VDVK is tamarind. Adequate safety measures such as the use of masks and sanitiser are being followed, keeping the overall situation in mind.

The first batch of tribals have been trained in making tamarind cakes. Following which, training has been stared on the procedures for the de-seeding of tamarind.

The first batch of tribal workers training on how to make Adda Leaf Plates through stitching by hand and machine was completed at the Van Dhan Vikas Kendra as of July 31, 2020.

To understand how value additions can be made on to basic minor forest produce, exposure visits to Processing Centres were organised in Andhra Pradesh on July 28, 2020.

Launch of 44 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras in Mizoram

The Van Dhan start-ups, established under the scheme initiated by TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs has emerged as a source of employment and income generation for tribal gatherers, forest dwellers and the home-bound labour and artisans. 

1205 Tribal Enterprises have already been established to provide employment opportunities to 3.6 lakh tribal gatherers and 18000 Self-help groups in 22 States.
