Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt of India, has launched a new scheme "Marketing and Logistics Support for Promotion of Tribal Products from North Eastern Region ( PTP -NER)".The Scheme was inaugurated by Shri Arjun Munda, Hon’ble Minister for Tribal Affairs, Government of India on 18 Apr 23 at Imphal. The scheme aims to strengthen livelihood opportunities for tribal artisans through increased efficiency in procurement, logistics and marketing of tribal products from North Eastern states.
TRIFED along with NEHHDC, Department of Posts and the various state agencies is conducting TRIBAL ARTISANS MELAS (TAMs) at district levels in entire North-East Region from 15 June 24 to 06 August 2024.
The concept of organizing Tribal Artisan Mela (TAM) at District/Tehsil/Block level is an exercise to reach tribal artisans located in interior tribal areas and source tribal art and craft as well as natural produces directly from the tribal artisans/group of artisans. Under this initiative, TRIFED in association with State Govt./ Organizations invites Tribal Artisans to an exhibition area where they display their art and craft items as well as natural products. TRIFED deputes its merchandising team to these Melas to identify the new artisans and new products which can be marketed through its outlets. This initiative not only helps in sourcing tribal art and craft in its original form but also helps in spreading the word about the welfare activities for livelihood opportunities for Tribals.Tribals are also informed as to how they can avail the benefits of these activities.
The Tribal Artisans should attend the Melas along with their sample products including Crafts and organic produce products as per the program for various states. Tribal Artisans attending the Mela should be in possession of the sample products (crafts, natural products etc.), Aadhaar Card Copy, ST Certificate, Bank Passbook/ Account Details and a photograph. All Tribal Artisans are invited at the location nearest to them to avail maximum benefit from scheme.
While retaining its focus on the welfare of Indian tribal artisans, TRIFED is organizing various events all over India to raise awareness about all its activities across its various divisions.
This is achieved by organizing festivals like Aadi Mahotsav in all parts of India which include regions as far as Ladakh. These festivals provide an excellent opportunity to the artisans to showcase their wares to a wide range of clientele – from elite to commoners. Events like these are crucial for the achievement of the objectives of TRIFED which remain tribal welfare through socio-economic emancipation of the tribal population of which the tribal artisans are a major part.
